Cattle Section
The cattle section at Goosnargh & Longridge Show gives farmers the opportunity to showcase their best livestock whilst competing to win best of breed and ultimately champion dairy or champion beef animal.
A cow is judged on their ability to produce high quality milk or beef whilst remaining healthy. On show day cows will be walked around the ring whilst the judge carefully assesses the conformation of each cow. A dairy cow will be judged on many aspects that can be attributed to economical and healthy milk production. For example the judge will be looking at the shape of the udder and position of the teats.
Similarly a beef a cow will be judged on the aspects that can be attributed to economical and healthy beef production, whilst producing desirable beef cuts for the butcher. For example the judge will be looking at the shape, size and fleshing of the cow’s rump.
Young handlers aged 26 years and under also compete on show day, being judged on their knowledge and presentation of their animal in the ring. Dairy young handlers and beef young handlers are judged separately, before concluding with a supreme young handler, dairy or beef.

Showing your cattle
Showing cattle - what to expect...
We kindly request that all cattle be brought to the Show Ground by 9:00 am sharp and remain at the Showground until 4:30 pm. Our judging activities will kick off at 10:00 am.
Upon arrival, you can obtain the cattle numbers from the cattle passport steward. Please note that passports are required for all cattle, and exhibitors are responsible for complying with any DEFRA Animal Health regulations in effect during the show.
Cattle should be securely tied to their allotted places. Please be aware that we won’t be providing hay and straw at the Show. To ensure smooth movement, we ask that you do not obstruct walkways and keep your individual areas clear.
We understand the importance of punctuality, and we’ll do our best to stick to the schedule. However, please be aware that the Secretary and Stewards may need to make slight adjustments if necessary. In the event of insufficient entries, the Show reserves the right to combine classes.
Lastly, the Champions and Reserve Champions in all Cattle Sections will have the honour of participating in the presentation of Trophies, which will take place in front of the Cattle Tent at approximately 2:30 pm.
We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to a fantastic event!
